Refractor Star Spikes
One of the great benefits of a scope with spider vanes are the natural star spikes they provide. There are ways to get these star spikes digitally with programs such as Star Spikes Pro however they are manufactured. There are ways to get these star spikes with refractors and other scopes without spider vanes and that is to create spider vanes to place over the scope.
I’ve created a spider vane cap for my Stellarvue 130 and took it for a test drive. The spider vane created the natural Star Spikes desired without disturbing the image or creating other artifacts
The biggest Issue I found with the spider vane is that if you Image a run, Remove the vane to place your cap on and later do another imaging run to add data you MUST place the vane in the same position. If you don’t place the vane in the same position you will get the star spikes however they will be in a different location and the spikes may get stacked out leaving just a round star.
If you want more spikes all you have to do is add more vanes to the cap.
If you want a custom Vane Cap Made you can order one from our STORE. We can also make the vane to incorporate a cap so you can cap the scope when your run is complete.
